One of the key trucking community events Jim and Jackie Keizer were involved in over the years was Truckers’ Day in Sioux City. This truck drivers appreciation event was well supported by the Siouxland trucking industry and was aimed to recognize the remarkable contribution and sacrifices that truck drivers make to the industry.

Trucker’s Day was held at the Sioux City Convention Center and was heavily supported by local trucking companies and vendors. Vendors displayed their newest equipment and organizers and volunteers served free meals for truck drivers. A banquet was held in the evening with a dance. Some years later the Truckers’ Day was moved to the Jackson Hotel and John Shanahan, publisher of the Farm to Market Truckers News, became the chief promoter.

Keizer Refrigeration, along with Taylor Martin Inc, auctioneers from Fremont, NE, sponsored the Truckers’ Day Queen contest in which each year’s Queen received a $1,500 scholarship to a college of her choice, with the runner up receiving a $1,000 scholarship and the Miss Congeniality receiving a $500 scholarship.
